Hello and welcome to my brand new DLB feature! Seeing as this is my first post, I thought I could post about the things we cant do without - the make-up staples! These are some of my favourite tried and tested everyday products. Obviously most peoples necessities are different, some people wouldn't be caught dead without eye-shadow, some couldn't live without lipstick, but there are products that everyone should have in their cosmetics bag! Here's a look at some good staple make-up products :)

1. Dainty Doll Foundation

This is a new product from Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts & Ultra cool JellyPongPong. Its specifically for pale skin and works with combination skin, so if you've got pale skin like me you will be pleased to know these do not leave you with the tell-tale orange lines!

2. MAC Studio Fix

This is the liquid version of the original Studio Fix powder foundation. With 26 shades of fabulous colours, this will give you great coverage and on a different note - smells amazing!

3. Benefit Boi-ing Concealer

Industrial strength concealer. This comes in just 3 shades but is easily blended to match most skin colours. Less is more with this product and its perfect for the morning after the night before.

4. Benefit High-Beam Highlighter

A highlighter that works so well you can immediately see the effects! This pearly pink highlighter will brighten up your face in an instant! Just dab a little bit on your cheek bones and below your brow and you will have that 'in love' look.

5. Boujoirs Paris 'Little Round Pot' Blusher

Sweep this blushers over your cheek bones for that peachy keen look! With a faint rose scent these little gems will make your day. For pale skin try Rose D'or and for slightly darker skin try Sienne 85.

6. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

You've all seen this little product before. It may only cost around £5 but its one of the best mascaras you'll find out there. For a more dramatic look try their Blackest Black range. This mascara has the qualities of a designer mascara at half the price!

7. Barry M Intense EyeLiners

These pencils are long lasting and come in the usual black and browns. However if one of your staples is a bit of colour, then look no further than the King of Colour Barry M. These pencils are affordable, which means you can buy lots of them! In the UK they can be found in large Boots and Superdrug stores.

8. Vaseline Lip Therapy

Perfect for braving the winter months, this will make your lips as soft as silk and keep you looking gorgeous! There are 4 different products in this range - Original, Aloe Vera, Rose and Sun Protection. All that for 99p! These can be found in chemists, small Boots stores and supermarkets.

9. Ultrabland by Lush

And how are you going to remove these fabulous products? With Lush's Ultrabland cleanser! This amazing cleanser will not only remove the stubbornness of make-up it will also keep your face moisturised.

1. Use foundation only on clean skin. Do not try to give a 'touch' to a stale make-up with foundation.

2. To avoid mascara flake-off or smudging on your face, apply a thin cost of mascara to top lashes only. Then run an eyelash brush through lashes to prevent clumpy mascara build-up.

3. Eyeliner should be applied close to base of eyelashes to make them look thicker. A soft pencil is easier to manage.

4. Nothing ages a person more than worry. Try to be positive and love every day as a new adventure and get joy from all the little things (so many cost nothing). Drink 8 glasses of water a day and use a moisturiser.

5. Use a gentle soap like Dove for acne prone skin. It makes your skin a lot less oily because its PH balanced.

6. To enhance your summer shimmer add a touch of blush to enliven your cheeks and bring out your natural color. In order to find the perfect rosiness, take a look in the mirror right after a workout. The tinge of pink that spreads across your cheeks is the color that will work best for you.

7. If you have a small mouth, draw outer outline with dark shade lipstick and fill in light shade lipstick with a lip liner.

8. To remove blackheads, steam for 5 mins and exfoliate immediately.

9. If you have dry skin, choose a lanolin mixed foundation cream.

Makeup Tips and Tricks for Maturing Skin

Have you ever wondered how Hollywood A-listers, like Jennifer Aniston and Salma Hayek, can wear glamorous makeup without a visible pore or crease, even after they have turned 40?  No matter how hard we try to stop our skin from aging, time is always one step ahead of us, and although we will never surrender, we have to adapt to the changes with grace. Even those who seem to subsist on Botox and face cream alone, eventually have to adjust their beauty care and makeup techniques to match the maturity of their skin.

If the same products that accompanied you to drive-in movies or the disco are still in your makeup kit, then you might be noticing they are not quite as reliable as they once were. Here are a few easy tips and tricks which could alleviate some of that frustration from malfunctioning cosmetics.

Finding the right foundation can be an agonizing experience with infinite possibilities and pushy sales people. For aging skin, it doesn’t matter if you prefer mineral or liquid foundation; what does matter is that you use a light formula that will not settle into fine lines and pores. One trick for both dry and wet formulas is to apply them with a drop of jojoba oil. It helps create a barrier between the skin and makeup, and allows the product to spread further. The oil also reduces sebum production, so it is less likely to slip and settle into little lines.

One of the tips that many people give is to stay away from all things glitter, as it highlights creases, making wrinkles appear deeper. Being a lover of all things that sparkle, I have a hard time with this. Definitely avoid shimmering products around the cheeks or under the eyes, but having a soft shimmer in your eyeshadow can be a great way to attract light and open up tired lids.

Use a thick cream concealer to prime the eyelids, and immediately after, set it with a velvety shadow a few shades lighter than your skin. The trick is to lightly press it on with a flat smooth brush from lash line to brow bone. Never sweep the brush across the lid as this will cause creping, no matter what your age. Then, follow with a darker shade, but avoid all glitter with this one. Use a plush crease defining brush and buff the shadow into your creases until it is fully blended.

If your lashes are straight, invest in a good quality eyelash curler, and watch as your eyes open to twice their size when they are rimmed with a properly curled lash line. It is best to use a liner brush and dark eyeshadow instead of a pencil eyeliner, as they can tug at the skin, creating a less than perfect result. However, if you prefer a traditional liner to powder, look for one that is extremely smooth and glides on without any resistance.

For the final touch, the right lipstick is a must. If your favorite shade is feathering (meaning it is no longer loyal to your lips and is exploring the exiting new territory around them) stop those bleed lines in their tracks with a cream concealer or a nice thick lip primer. Apply it all around the lip line and set it with powder before applying your lipstick.

Hopefully, with these few tweaks to your daily routine, you can finally get your makeup to fall in line, by staying out of them!
